Christmas Celebrations in South Dakota :

The capital city of Pierre welcomes the holiday season with Pierre Parade of Lights which takes place on last Saturday in the month of November. This parade features illuminated floats, horse-drawn carriages and marching bands.

The annual Christmas at the Capitol display in Pierre includes nearly 100 trees that are decorated by volunteers from communities, schools, churches, nonprofit organizations and state government offices. The display is then open to the public 8 a.m.-10 p.m. daily from November end till December 26.

The city of Sioux Falls welcomes the holiday season with Sioux Falls Parade of Lights which takes place a day after Thanksgiving. This parade features illuminated floats, horse-drawn carriages and marching bands.

Falls Park in Sioux Falls, South Dakota transforms into Winter Wonderland for the holiday season with Christmas lighting, live music, entertainment and a visit by Santa Claus and various other events everyday from November to January.

The annual Festival of Lights Parade takes place in downtown Rapid City on last Saturday in the month of November featuring decorated floats covered in thousands of lights, horse-drawn carriages, animated scenes on flatbed trucks, sparkling vehicles, animals adorned in holiday decor, marching bands, and even a full-size passenger locomotive with over 100,000 lights.

The 1880 Train will roll out the annual Holiday Express journey from Hill City to the North Pole where Santa will be waiting to get on board the train. Each child will get the chance to meet Santa and receive a small Christmas gift.

The Annual Custer Christmas Parade takes place in downtown Custer on first Saturday in month of December. This annual parade of lights signals the kick-off of the holiday season in the Southern Hills. After the parade, Santa and Mrs. Claus appear at Way Park for the Memorial Tree Lighting Ceremony and Custer Cash Drawings.
