Christmas Lights in Medellín also known as Lighting of Medellín is an traditional Christmas event taking place in Medellín, Colombia where millions of Christmas lights are hung across the city, especially on and around the Medellín River.
During this Christmas season, light shows and other cultural events are also organised.
Colombia’s second largest city, Medellin, has been on the world map for many years for its Christmas Celebrations. In December 2012, National Geographic selected Medellin as one of the 10 best places to see the holiday Christmas lights.

Christmas Lights in Medellín 2018 :
In 2018, the Christmas Lights in Medellín will officially start on 1 December 2018 and will go on beyond Christmas and New Year until January 7, 2019.
The Medellin river will feature 1.1 miles of decorations between the bridge of Guayaquil and the bridge of San Juan and 2,650 hexagon blinkers.
This year they have used 30 million LED lights and over 800 kilometers of lighting tubes with LED lights and the lights diplays were designed to tell a Christmas story
During this time, local people and tourist visit the Medellin River area and the entire area comes alive with thousands of people.
The streets are filled with vendors selling everything from cotton candy, fast foods, beverages, Christmas goodies, etc and there are street performers who come out to entertain the crowds.
There are more than 500 different activities and 80 events that take place throughout the entire month.
