Senegal officially the Republic of Senegal is a country in West Africa. Senegal is externally bounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the west, Mauritania to the north, Mali to the east, and Guinea and Guinea-Bissau to the south; internally it almost completely surrounds the Gambia, namely on the north, east and south, except for Gambia’s short Atlantic coastline.
The Capital and largest city of this country is Dakar.
Christmas Celebrations in Senegal :
In Senegal majority population is of Muslim therefore Islam is main religion that is being follwed by maximum people living in this country. But even though Christmas is given needed importance and therefore it is a national holiday on Christmas in this country.
Senegal, a moderate country along Africa’s western coast, has long been a place where Christians and Muslims have coexisted peacefully. Most Christians here are Catholic and live in the south of the country
All the shopkeepers and hawkers get happy to sell plastic trees and inflatable Santas. “While secularism may mean elsewhere that each person is free to celebrate his or her own holidays, many in Senegal have interpreted it to mean they should celebrate all holidays.”
Even the Grande Mosquee, which dominates the city’s skyline, is aglow in holiday lights. Mosques and churches are decked out in lights, and schoolchildren sing carols and learn about Santa Claus, or Père Noel, as he’s called in this former French colony.
