The Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis located in the Leeward Islands, is a federal two-island state in the West Indies. It is the smallest sovereign state in the Americas, in terms of both, the area and population.

Christmas season in St. Kitts is also Carnival season in others words one huge party with music and dancing in the streets. The day after Christmas is J’ouvert. This is when the capital of St. Kitts, Basse Terre fills up with everyone, drinking rum, and dancing to calypso music blasting from flat bed trucks being pulled around the town squares’ by tractors. At Christmas time, Carnival is in full swing on St. Kitts. The opening gala takes place in mid-December, with events going on until a few days after New Year’s. Among these events, crowd favorites include full of people wearing colorful, spangled costumes.

St. Kitts carnival’s features calypso, steel bands, the big drum and fife corps, masquerade and children’s dancing troupes, the Bull, Mocko Jumbies, clowns and string bands. Festive foods include black pudding, goat water, conchs, Johnny cakes, and roti. There are also competitions such as the National Carnival Queen Show, the Junior Calypso Monarch Competition and the Caribbean Talented Teen Competition. Others of these are the Miss Caribbean Talented Teen Pageant. Of course, there are also plenty of parades.
